Morgan Pinot Noir

2006 Gary's Vineyard Pinot Noir

2006 Gary's Vineyard Pinot Noir

The 2006 Morgan Pinot Noir Gary’s Vineyard certainly caught me off guard last night.  It was hands down the best Pinot Noir that I have tasted.  It was what Pinot Noir is supposed to taste like.  The Santa Luica Highlands are one of the most sought after plots of land for Pinot Noir with a strong emphasis of Gary’s Vineyard in particular.  Local wine sommelier joked that Gary’s Vineyard grapes could be thrown in a bin, stomped with bare feet, put in a neutral barrel and the same perfect wine would come out.  It slid down my tongue like velvet with a a perfect balance of acidity and tannins.  It was not too fruit forward yet expressed a strawberry jam, sweet tobacco and cherries smell and tasted of strawberry jam, plum, and dark chocolates.  The oak was very subtle and the finish long and somewhat spicy.  An overall great wine.
